WELCOME LETTER

Dear friends,

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to participate at the 17th EUROCHAP, thus the 17th Congress of the European Chapter of the International Union of Angiology - a Society for Vascular Medicine and Surgery and Vascular Interventions, to be held in Nicosia, Cyprus in April 2007.

New developments have occurred during the last years that challenged our understanding of vascular diseases and opened new horizons for a better care of our patients. The multidisciplinary character of the International Union of Angiology and the EUROCHAP provides a unique forum for scientific discussions of all critical issues concerning the management and care of vascular disorders. Persons involved with research in basic sciences, genetics, epidemiology, physiology and biophysics, will discuss with the clinicians, angiologists, vascular surgeons and interventionalists, cardiologists, neurologists and internists, the new exciting developments in an effort to brake the boundaries between different specialties and traditional attitudes that may exist in the treatment of patients with vascular disorders.

Nicosia (Lefkosia) the hosting town is the capital of Cyprus and one of the oldest cities in our part of the world. Today Lefkosia is a sophisticated and cosmopolitan place in the Eastern Mediterranean, although still divided by a green invasion line. Nicosia is rich in history and culture and combines its historic past with the amenities of a modern city.

The Congress will take place in spring, the most beautiful season in Cyprus, where the traditional hospitality is in harmony with the ancient tradition.

I am sure that your stay will be pleasant and unforgettable and the Organising Committee and myself look forward to welcome you in Cyprus.

N.S. Angelides MD PhD, FRCS
President of the Congress
